How You Can Show Support for Black Lives Matter

Over the last few days we have been collectively searching for the right words and the right actions, for a path forward, questioning, how can we do better than we have in the past?  How can we turn this pivotal moment into one that has lasting impact? There is so much justified pain out there, and we acknowledge that there is no easy fix for the racial bigotry and systemic bias that has plagued our country for generations.   Additionally, set against the backdrop of a global pandemic, it is especially hard not to feel hopeless and helpless about the future.

But as we know, helplessness is never the answer and silence leaves a vacuum - a vacuum that is too easily filled with bad actors, or misinformation, or false assumptions.  In the face of injustice, there is no such thing as an innocent bystander.

We must step into the conversation.  That is what we aim to help women do in their daily lives.  Step into difficult conversations. Find their voices.  Call out bias in the workplace.  Own their value and their worth.  With dignity, empathy, respect, and compassion.

Let us dare to bridge the gap. It starts by finding the time in our busy lives to investigate our own biases, by stepping outside of our own immediate challenges to tend to our familial culture, to our business culture, to our community’s culture, listening, and having these difficult conversations. In this way, we can begin to have a ripple effect on rooting out bias, calling out ignorance and discrimination when we see it, and helping the wounded heal.

At WIN, we are committed to disassembling implicit (and explicit) biases, cultivating diverse leadership, and empowering women from all backgrounds.
